YMCA Internship: How Coursework Prepared Me

Prior to my internship at the YMCA, I had taken many classes that would end up helping me such as Strategic Communications Writing, Marketing Principles, Public Speaking and Media Audiences. One of the most influential classes I had taken in regards to my internship was Strategic Communications Writing. In that class, I was taught how to write press releases, social media campaigns, speeches and advertisements. Most of which I was also able to do with the Y in the past few months. Having prior knowledge of press releases and social media marketing was a huge help and boosted my confidence going in. My marketing classes provided me with prior knowledge that helped with social media, especially with understanding audiences and how to appeal to them in the best way possible. Taking classes that aligned with my internship was a great assistance because not only did my classwork improve my outside work but my outside work was able to help in my classes.
