Having my first internship with the YMCA of South Hampton Roads was such a great experience for me. I was able to meet so many great people, hear so many great stories and learn a lot about the organization. If I had the chance to give advice to any future interns I would say don’t be nervous, you’re going to do great. I was lucky enough to have some background knowledge of the kind of projects I would be doing but I was still extremely new to this kind of work. I would also say don’t be afraid to ask questions if something is unclear or you’re unsure of any information, everyone is there to help. I was given such great feedback on the projects that I had worked on and have been able to improve my work during my internship and outside of it. It’s important to remember that internships are opportunities to grow and improve, no one goes in being a professional and you should use this opportunity to its fullest, challenge yourself. I always felt supported at my internship and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone.
